BP-007/PLAYBOOK/2 MIN/RELATED TOOLS: 2/FREE

Validate a Micro-SaaS Idea in 48 Hours

Test whether people actually want your software idea before you build it: find evidence of pain, size up competitors, put up a page with a price, drive targeted visitors and decide with criteria you set in advance.

AI makes building fast, which makes it tempting to skip the question that matters: does anyone want this enough to pay? Validation is cheaper than building, and 48 focused hours is enough to get a real signal for most small software ideas.

tip:

Write your kill criteria before you start. For example: “If fewer than X of Y targeted visitors join the waitlist, or nobody agrees to a call, I stop.” Deciding the threshold afterwards makes every result look promising.

Day 1 — Evidence

  1. 1

Write the problem hypothesis. “[Who] struggles with [problem] when [situation], and currently copes by [workaround].” The workaround matters most: spreadsheets, manual copy-paste and hired help are signs of pain people already pay to solve.

  2. 2

Mine complaints about existing tools. Read 1–3 star reviews of the closest tools on sites like G2, Capterra, app stores and Chrome Web Store, plus Reddit and forum threads. Collect exact quotes.

    PROMPT · REVIEW MINING
Here are negative reviews and complaints about tools in [category]: """ [paste quotes] """ Cluster them into problems. For each problem: how many quotes mention it, the most vivid quote, the type of user complaining, and whether it sounds like a "must fix" or a "nice to have". End with the single most promising gap for a small, focused product.
  3. 3

Size up the competitors. List 5–10 alternatives and capture their positioning, pricing tiers and target customer from their websites. You are looking for an underserved segment or a missing feature, not an empty market — no competitors often means no demand.

  4. 4

Check the demand trend. Is interest in the problem growing, flat or fading? Look at search interest (e.g. Google Trends), community activity and related tool launches over the last year.
